Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you ("you", "your") and ShinySplit ("ShinySplit", "we", "our", "us"). They cover your use of the ShinySplit website, web app, and related features (the "Service"). By creating or joining a group, or by continuing to use the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.


1. What ShinySplit Is (and Isn’t)

  • ShinySplit helps people track and split shared expenses inside groups. It’s a convenience tool only. We do not give financial, tax, or legal advice.
  • You can optionally buy in-app credits called ShinyCoins to unlock certain features. Payments for ShinyCoins are handled by a third-party payment processor (for example, Stripe). We do not store your full card or bank details.
  • ShinySplit does not move money between members of a group, act as an escrow, hold funds for you, or settle debts between users.
  • Groups can choose a base currency. You can record expenses in other currencies and we’ll show converted estimates. Exchange rates come from third-party sources and may lag the real market. This is for display only, not a quote or guarantee.

2. Who Can Use It

  • You must be old enough to enter a binding agreement where you live (and at least 13 years old).
  • If you use ShinySplit for a company or organisation, you confirm you’re allowed to agree to these Terms for them.

3. Accounts

  • You can use ShinySplit without an account, or you can create an account (email or OAuth) to keep access to groups and your Wallet.
  • You’re responsible for what happens in your account. Keep your login secure and tell us at Jiemo.ai.apps@gmail.com if you think someone else is using it.

4. Acceptable Use

Don’t do any of this:

  • Anything illegal, harmful, fraudulent, or misleading.
  • Uploading or sharing content that is defamatory, hateful, infringing, obscene, or abusive.
  • Trying to break, overload, scrape, or reverse-engineer the Service.
  • Faking expenses, impersonating someone else, or otherwise lying to your group.
  • Trying to game rewards: creating fake or duplicate accounts, self-referring, forming fake groups just to collect ShinyCoins, or abusing any referral or promo mechanic.

If we reasonably believe you’re doing any of that, we can suspend or limit your access.


5. ShinyCoins & Paid Features

  • ShinyCoins are in-app credits you can earn or buy. They let you unlock certain features (for example: multi-currency).
  • ShinyCoins are not cash, not a bank balance, not transferable to other users, and can’t be sold, traded, or withdrawn for money.
  • When you buy ShinyCoins, Stripe (or another payment processor) handles the payment. We’ll show a single price (including taxes like GST where required) before you confirm.
  • Except where the law requires a refund, purchases of ShinyCoins are final. If a payment later gets reversed, disputed, or charged back, we may deduct those coins or suspend Wallet access.
  • Earned coins and promo coins: we may give coins for actions like “first group created” or similar. We can reverse or refuse those coins if we reasonably believe they came from fake activity or abuse.
  • ShinyCoins don’t expire while your account is active. If your account is inactive or deleted, any unused coins may be removed after reasonable notice.
  • We may change or retire coin-based features in the future. If we make a material change, we’ll try to give reasonable notice in-app.

6. No Professional Advice

The numbers ShinySplit shows (including currency conversion) are informational only. We don’t promise accuracy, and we’re not giving you accounting, tax, or legal advice. Always sanity check before you settle up with your friends / housemates / trip group.


7. Liability

  • We provide the Service “as is” and “as available”. We don’t make guarantees about uptime, accuracy, or that the Service will meet your needs.
  • To the maximum extent allowed by law, we’re not responsible for indirect or consequential loss (for example: lost profits, lost data, reputational damage).
  • If you have a direct loss and we’re legally responsible, our total liability to you for all claims related to the Service is limited to the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We’re not trying to limit any rights you can’t legally waive (for example, certain consumer rights under Australian Consumer Law).

8. Suspension / Termination

  • You can stop using ShinySplit any time. You can also delete your account if you created one.
  • We can suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, create security or fraud risk, or seriously misuse the Service.
  • We can also freeze or remove ShinyCoins, or restrict access to Wallet features, if we reasonably believe they were earned or obtained in breach of these Terms.

If it’s reasonable to do so, we’ll try to give you notice (for example, an email or in-app message) before suspension or termination, unless we need to act quickly (fraud, security, illegal use).


9. Privacy

We handle your information as described in our Privacy Policy. By using ShinySplit, you agree to that.


10. Disputes & Governing Law

  • These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
  • If we have a dispute, you agree to first email us at Jiemo.ai.apps@gmail.com with a short description and give us up to 30 days to try to resolve it informally.
  • If it still isn’t resolved, the dispute will be heard in the courts of New South Wales.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. If we make a material change, we’ll try to let you know in the app or (if you have an account) by email. If you keep using the Service after the new Terms start, that means you accept them.
